Zaha Hadid Architects Unveil Trio of “Blossoming” Residential Towers on Brisbane Riverfront

Zaha Hadid Architects recently revealed designs for Grace on Coronation, a trio of neo-futuristic residential towers to be developed by the Sunland Group. Located along the Toowong riverbank just a few miles west of Brisbane, the $420 million residential project will comprise 486 apartments with eight riverfront villas, 635 car parks, and 78,500 square feet of landscaped public parklands.

More than just a residential complex, the 3.7-acre development is designed to breathe new life into the historic waterfront and activate its urban surroundings. “Importantly, it is a vision that opens up the site to the broader community through the creation of expansive public parklands, a riverside viewing platform and the transformation of [the Heritage-listed] Middenbury [house] into a meaningful public space,” says Sahba Abedian, Sunland Managing Director.

The trio of sculptural towers mimics the shape of flowers in bloom and will be clad in a multi-layer facade with curtain wall glazing and overlaid with a quilted diamond pattern of glass reinforced concrete. Each structure will also be tapered at the bottom to open up more riverfront space for civic use. With nearly 430 feet of direct river frontage, the development will offer uninterrupted views to Brisbane’s central business district and St. Lucia.
